Thoughts on Prayer

Prayer is such an awesomely useful gift from God! I've been praying to God for as long as I can remember, but the way I pray has changed dramatically over the years. I grew up with repetitive prayer, which provided a comfortable pattern to follow in the beginning, but prayer is so much more than that. I still feel so inadequate in my ability to come up with the right words to speak, especially when asked to pray aloud in front of a group, but I'm learning to trust the Holy Spirit to provide the words for me.

Here are some things I've learned on my journey:

Pray to the Father, through the power of the Holy Spirit in the precious name of Jesus Christ, believing in complete faith that God will answer your prayer in the best way possible...even though it may not seem, to us, like His answer is a reasonable solution.

Thank God for what He's done. Pray for others before praying for yourself. And, be persistent. God's solution is usually quite a bit different from anything we could imagine, and sometimes, God's timing requires hours, days, months, or even many years of patient prayerful faithfulness. Pray, expecting the unexpected, keeping in mind that all things work together for good to them that love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose.

Always compare any prayer response you receive with Scripture to make sure it's from God. Sometimes God will ask us to do something that doesn't seem to make any sense, but He will never ask us to do anything that goes against Scripture.

Thank God for what He's about to do in Jesus' name! Nothing is too hard for the Almighty God who created us and loves us beyond measure! He knows what you're going through, and He is the solution to all your problems! Trust Him with all your heart, and follow, wherever He leads!

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." -Philippians 4:6-8 (KJV)

Love & Forgiveness

As we enter this new year, let's remember how far we've come from who we used to be, and how far we have to go before we'll become who we need to be, by the Grace of God. All of us mere mortals have sinned! Only Jesus can save us! Learn to forgive others, because no matter how good we might think we are, we all fall short of the Glory of God. We all need forgiveness! "But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." (Mark 11:26, KJV) God has promised to remove all the sin from our lives if we want Him to, but we need to be willing to let Him do it. All sin is bad, and we're all guilty! Eventually, all sin will be destroyed! We need to choose to let go of sin before it's too late! Jesus paid the price for all of our sins, and the gift is available for all who choose to receive it. But, Jesus expects us to forgive as we have been forgiven. Praise God for Jesus' victory over sin, and the gift of salvation! We can't afford to let forgiveness of someone else's sins stand in the way of God's forgiveness of our own sins. Let's allow God to use us to reach out to our fellow sinners, and by helping each other we will realize our own transgressions, that only Jesus can fix, and receive the experience of victory over sin that our Savior has made possible. He will use these opportunities to teach us to walk in Love. Ready or not, Jesus is coming soon! Get to know Him and learn to trust Him always, and He will guide you into the awesome future that He has made available to all who choose to let Love lead them!

Not I, But Christ! (To God Be The Glory!)

When we realize our sins and our incompetence to overcome our sins on our own, Christ comes "in" to the heart of "me" and transforms this heart of "m-in-e" into Christ working "in me". He covers the "in" and cleanses us from our sins. By the Loving Grace of God, His Competence works through us. Jesus covers our incompetence and changes us from the inside out. God is Awesome! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and so can you!
